Sleeping Beauties

When animals are asleep, they are at their most vulnerable; even the most dangerous predator can look beautiful & gentle while sleeping. When in the land of dreams, all creatures are equals in this world. We are all Sleeping Beauties, just like the creatures in these beautiful sleeping animal pictures.

evergladesman:

.A few years ago I was bringing a group of Cub Scouts deep into the Everglades. Around one of the bends we came upon this unusual sight. A Red Shoulder Hawk upside down hanging onto a snake.  Some ornithologists at a local University figured out that the hawk caught the snake on the ground and flew to the tree to eat. The snake then wrapped itself around the tree. The hawk attempted to fly a number of times, but the snake would not let go of the tree. The entire time this was happening the hawk was facing away from me. For only a brief moment it turned to look in my direction. I have always felt that it was saying “can you believe what I have to go through to get a decent meal?”. (Everglades National Park)

Poor snake!  Awesome picture.  »

earth-song:

“Jump !” by Leonardo Fava

Raising herself, reaching out towards the prey, who may be the brazen crow who laughs behind her shoulder ….But it’s a short jump then, inevitably, the fox will be back on the ground on its four legs.
